Several students were injured on Friday evening after a school coaster transporting learners from an educational trip collided with a sugarcane truck in Kamuli District.

The accident occurred on July 17, 2026, at Busota Trading Centre near Busota Health Centre III along the Kamuli route.

The coaster was carrying students from Nalango Secondary School who were returning from a trip in Jinja.No deaths had been confirmed at the time of reporting.

Several students sustained injuries, including fractures, with some reported to be in critical condition.

Emergency teams, supported by local residents, rushed the victims to Kamuli General Hospital and nearby health facilities for treatment.

The cause of the crash has not yet been officially determined.

Police are expected to investigate factors such as speeding, overtaking, mechanical failure, or other possible contributors.

The incident happened only hours after the government announced new school transport safety measures — including the suspension of all school trips — in response to the recent deadly Kapchorwa school bus crash.

The latest accident has heightened concerns about school travel safety, especially on roads in the Busoga sub-region frequently used by heavy sugarcane trucks.

Kamuli has seen multiple serious crashes involving sugarcane trucks in recent months.
