South Sudan’s top military commander, General Santino Deng Wol, has stated that ongoing instability in the Upper Nile Region continues to hinder development and limit people’s access to essential services.

The General shared these views on Saturday during a gathering at the SSPDF’s Bilpam headquarters, where he met with officers from the Nuer community in Upper Nile.

The session centered on the current security challenges and initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable peace and stability in the area.General Deng noted that prolonged conflict has left Upper Nile lagging behind other regions in key sectors such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

He emphasized that persistent insecurity has weakened government initiatives to build stronger stability and provide vital public services.

“The future of Upper Nile lies in the hands of its own people,” General Deng told the officers.

“You must strive for peace and stability rather than let conflict ruin your homeland. Sustainable peace will open doors for development, enhance security, and allow displaced families to return to their homes.”

He encouraged the officers and communities of Upper Nile to act as advocates for peace instead of fueling divisions.

The General stressed that local communities bear the primary duty to collaborate, safeguard their populations, and back initiatives to halt violence.

Additionally, he urged SSPDF personnel from the region to stay united, maintain discipline, and fulfill their constitutional responsibilities.

He called on them to partner with community leaders and local authorities in fostering reconciliation and harmonious living.

The officers responded positively to the Chief’s address, renewing their pledge to support national efforts in restoring security, reinforcing unity, and advancing enduring peace throughout the Nuer areas of Upper Nile.
