Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have officially confirmed the homecoming of forward Farouk Miya ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Miya rejoins the Venoms exactly 10 years after departing the club in 2016 for a lucrative move to Belgian side Standard Liège.

The attacker had been training with Vipers recently and impressed head coach Denis Lavagne, paving the way for his return to the team where he first rose to prominence as one of Uganda’s brightest talents.

“We are pleased to announce the return of Farouk Miya to the club ahead of the 2026/27 season, bringing back a player whose name remains etched among the greatest ever to wear the famous red and black,” the club stated.

Miya’s most recent stint was with Greek second-division side GS Ilioupolis earlier this year.

Since leaving Vipers, he has played for several European clubs, including Standard Liège and Mouscron (Belgium), FK Sabail (Azerbaijan), HNK Gorica (Croatia), Konyaspor and Rizespor (Turkey), and PFC Lviv (Ukraine).

In his final season with Vipers before the 2016 transfer, Miya was instrumental in the club’s league title triumph, contributing 11 goals and seven assists.

Vipers reportedly received around US$400,000 from Standard Liège for the deal.

Widely regarded as one of Uganda’s top footballers, Miya famously scored the winning goal that qualified the Uganda Cranes for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), securing a 1-0 victory over Comoros at Namboole Stadium on September 4, 2016.

Vipers have already made several squad additions for the new season, including Joel Sserunjogi, Nicholas Mwere, Caesar Manzoki, Loyce Mbaba, and Jacques Mangoba, while Kenneth Kimera has returned from a loan at Express FC.

Players who have departed the club include goalkeeper Alfred Mudekereza, Grant Matsiko, Livingstone Mulondo, Nicholas Wadada, and Taddeo Lwanga.

The Venoms will kick off their competitive campaign at the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup before facing a busy season that includes CAF Champions League participation.
