Former Butambala County MP Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi has resurfaced at Nateete Police Station in Kampala after more than two weeks of being held incommunicado.

He was reportedly dropped off at the station on Wednesday morning by unidentified state operatives.

Sources indicated that Kivumbi was brought to the station under unclear circumstances. At the time of reporting, it remained uncertain whether he would face fresh charges, be released, or appear in court.

Kivumbi went missing on July 9, 2026, shortly after being released on bail.

He had faced terrorism-related charges alongside others stemming from violence at his Butambala home on election night.

His lawyers and family subsequently filed a habeas corpus application in the High Court, demanding that security agencies produce him or reveal his whereabouts.

The development follows a recent directive by High Court Judge Collins Acellam, who ordered the Chief of Defence Forces, the Inspector General of Police, and the Attorney General to investigate and report on Kivumbi’s whereabouts.

Both the government and police had earlier informed the court that they did not know where he was.

Police had not issued any official statement on his appearance at Nateete Police Station by the time this report was filed.
