Nation Media Group (NMG) Uganda has restarted its activities, bringing back NTV Uganda, Daily Monitor, Spark TV, and other associated platforms roughly one month after their closure.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Group indicated that services across television, print, radio, and digital channels would be restored in phases while finalizing required operational setups.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding shown by our audiences, clients and partners during this period and appreciate your continued trust and confidence in our brands,” said NMG Chairman Joe Muganda. He reaffirmed the company’s dedication to delivering trusted and balanced journalism.

The platforms—including NTV Uganda, Daily Monitor, Spark TV, KFM, Dembe FM, Ennyanda, and The EastAfrican—were shut down on the night of June 28, 2026, on the directives of Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

This reopening follows authorisation granted by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

In a separate press release, majority shareholder Taifa Group (through subsidiary Taarifa Limited) confirmed the development.

Taifa Group Chairman Rostam Azizi extended gratitude to President Museveni for the decision and thanked Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for his support during the engagements that facilitated the positive resolution.

Muganda noted that the Group’s immediate focus will be on rebuilding its footprint in Uganda, reconnecting with audiences and stakeholders, restoring platforms responsibly, enhancing local content, and continuing to deliver credible, relevant, and innovative journalism across all channels.

The move highlights ongoing regional cooperation and commitment to media development in East Africa. Taifa Group and NMG both expressed dedication to responsible investment, fair and independent journalism, and contributions to national and regional socio-economic progress.
