President Salva Kiir Mayardit removed Johnny Ohisa Domian from his post as governor of the Bank of South Sudan on Wednesday, amid the nation’s escalating economic difficulties, including rampant inflation.

Kiir immediately appointed Dr. Addis Ababa Othow to replace him. Othow previously held the governor position last year.

The presidential decree provided no official explanation for Domian’s dismissal. However, South Sudan continues to struggle with acute shortages of local currency and prolonged delays in salary payments for government workers.

Othow had been serving as the bank’s first deputy governor since February 2025, before briefly taking over as governor in June 2025.

This leadership change occurs as the country faces ongoing financial pressures.
