Major General Richard Karemire, Chairman of Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Football Club (UPDF FC), has urged fans and club officials to form stronger alliances aimed at developing a competitive and sustainable football organization.
Speaking at the UPDF FC Fans Gala held at Bombo Military Ground, Maj Gen Karemire described the event as the start of a fresh chapter in the relationship between the club and its supporters. The gathering attracted fans and stakeholders from the Bulemeezi region, covering districts such as Nakaseke, Nakasongola, and Luweero.
“Today is more than just an ordinary gala — it signals the beginning of a renewed bond between UPDF Football Club and its fans across the Buganda region,” he stated.
The chairman highlighted the club’s dedication to forging lasting partnerships through business collaborations, greater fan involvement, and active participation in community initiatives.
“Our goal goes beyond simply winning games on the pitch,” Maj Gen Karemire said. “We want to create a lasting legacy and revive the pride, glory, and unity that once positioned Bombo and the wider Bulemeezi area as a football powerhouse.”
He encouraged supporters to back the club’s growth by buying match tickets and official merchandise, as well as taking part in various club activities during the season. He also called on fans to stand firmly behind the team, CEO Lt Sheldon Turyamureeba, and the full management team in their efforts to transform UPDF FC.
On the club’s future direction, Maj Gen Karemire outlined key priorities: reinforcing technical capabilities, advancing the women’s team, and investing in youth development through the U-15 and U-17 squads to produce talent for both the senior side and the national team.
He expressed gratitude to the club’s sponsors — Zabra Metal Works, Linqsoft Aluminum, and Wazalendo — for their ongoing support.
In his remarks, UPDF FC Chief Executive Officer Lt Sheldon Turyamureeba promised fans that the club would establish transparent and accountable financial systems to properly handle all contributions. He reiterated the focus on youth talent development via the U-15 and U-17 programs and invited supporters to buy season tickets and attend matches regularly.
Lt Turyamureeba further appealed to fans to expand the supporters’ base by recruiting more enthusiasts.
“No contribution is too small,” he emphasized. “When many people come together, they can achieve great things.”
He added that the aim is to create a well-organized, responsible, and self-reliant fan community with structured groups across the Buganda region.
The event wrapped up with club officials and fans renewing their pledge to collaborate in building a stronger, more cohesive, and sustainable future for UPDF Football Club.
