A pedestrian lost their life in a collision on the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway, triggering fresh alerts against walking or crossing the highway at points that are not authorised.

The deadly crash took place on Sunday around kilometre 3 on the Kajjansi–Busega stretch, close to a sharp curve.

A Toyota minivan bearing registration UA 908DF was involved.

Further particulars about the victim’s death were not released right away, yet the event has intensified worries over pedestrian safety on the expressway.

In a statement issued after the accident, officials managing the Kampala–Entebbe Expressway voiced sorrow at the tragedy and warned nearby residents against entering the road on foot.

“This tragic incident is a reminder of the serious dangers of attempting to cross or walk along the Expressway,” the statement said.

The authorities noted that they had recently met with local communities and stressed that people must not cross the expressway, damage or interfere with the protective fencing, or enter the roadway through unapproved locations.

“We once again urge everyone, especially communities living near the Expressway, to keep pedestrians off the Expressway and use designated crossing points,” they said.

Motorists were also asked to stick to speed limits and stay attentive, especially near bends and exit ramps.

“We also remind all road users to drive within the speed limit, remain alert, and exercise extra caution when approaching bends and exit points,” the statement added.

This latest accident occurs against a backdrop of ongoing worries about pedestrians accessing the busy Kampala–Entebbe Expressway.

Officials have repeatedly called on surrounding communities to rely on the proper crossing facilities.

“Please do not cross or walk on the Expressway. Let’s all play our part in keeping everyone safe,” the authorities said.
