Kampala Metropolitan Police South, working through the Katwe Police Division, has arrested four suspects and recovered several motorcycles believed to have been stolen.
The action followed intelligence-led operations aimed at tackling motorcycle theft and the sale of stolen bikes.
The operations were triggered by information about a suspected stolen Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UMA 2244MX.
Officers recovered the bike from Banturaki Purtaz, a resident of Wankulukuku Zone in Kabowa Parish, Rubaga Division.
While being questioned, Banturaki admitted he had earlier stolen two other motorcycles.
He allegedly took one Bajaj Boxer, registration number UFH 005Y, from Nkumba and sold it to two men identified as Lukyamuzi Muminu and Abasi Mwesezi in Rakai District.
A second Bajaj Boxer, registration number UEQ, was allegedly stolen from Kigungu in Entebbe and sold to a man known only as Mike in Wansaso Zone.
Acting on further intelligence, police mounted an operation in Wansaso Zone and recovered the UEQ motorcycle, which had its number plate removed.
Two suspects, Senyange Derric and Kagwa Ian, were arrested on suspicion of receiving the stolen motorcycle and delivering it to an alleged promoter.
On 2 September 2026, a team of Crime Intelligence officers travelled to Rakai District and arrested Lukyamuzi Muminu.
During interrogation he admitted buying the UFH 005Y motorcycle for UGX 500,000. He said he and his accomplice, Abasi Mwesezi, had dismantled the bike and sold it as spare parts.
Police also recovered the number plate UFH 005Y, which had been hidden at the suspect’s ancestral home, along with another Bajaj Boxer motorcycle registered as UDM 669Z.
Investigations are continuing. Officers are working to arrest other suspects still at large, recover more stolen motorcycles and uncover the wider network involved in the theft, dismantling and disposal of the bikes.
