SC Villa Claim Kampala Derby Bragging Rights with 2-0 Win Over Express

SC Villa claimed the bragging rights in the Kampala Derby after beating Express FC 2-0 at Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.

The Jogoos got off to a strong start, taking the lead in just the fifth minute through Patrick Jonah Kakande.

Kakande was perfectly positioned to convert from close range after Ibrahim Kasinde delivered a precise cross into the penalty area.

Express gradually found their rhythm and carved out several chances to level the score before half-time.

Nicholas Jjonga got into a good position but opted to square the ball to Isaac Wagoina, whose shot was blocked.

Wagoina came even closer shortly afterwards when he connected with a cross from Shafik Batambuze, but his header drifted just wide of the target.

The Red Eagles kept pressing after the break, with substitute Peter Onzima nearly making an impact against his former club.

His low ball flashed across the Villa goal without finding a teammate.

Villa remained a threat on the counter-attack and sealed the victory in stoppage time.Andrew Otim reacted quickest to Steven Mugisha’s delivery into the box and coolly lifted the ball over advancing goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya to make it 2-0.

The result gives Villa consecutive wins following their 1-0 victory over URA, after opening the season with a 1-1 draw against Kitara.

Express have now suffered their second loss in three matches.

They were beaten by BUL in Njeru on the first matchday before bouncing back with a 2-0 win over KCCA.
