Lugazi FC produced a late winner to defeat Entebbe UPPC 1-0 in a tightly contested Uganda Premier League match at Nakivubo Stadium on Wednesday.
The decisive goal came in the 82nd minute when Cromwell Rwothomio reacted quickest to Frank Mulimi’s free-kick and bundled the ball into the net.
Lugazi held firm thereafter to claim all three points.
The victory marks Lugazi’s second win of the season, following their 2-1 opening-day success against Kigezi HomeBoyz.
It also provided a strong response after their 3-1 defeat to NEC at Lugogo.
Lugazi coach Abbey Bogere Kikomeko praised his side’s character: “It was a hard game, but we strategised really well. After losing to NEC, we went back and rectified the mistakes we made, and I’m happy that the boys played to the instructions. I am happy with the character and resilience they showed, which helped us win the game.”
Entebbe UPPC, who had started the campaign well with wins over Vipers (1-0) and UPDF (2-1), were left disappointed by the narrow loss.
