Prince David Kijanangoma, the elder brother of newly proclaimed Tooro King Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma Nyobongo I and a cousin of the late Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, has died.
According to journalist and close associate Andrew Irumba, the prince succumbed to throat cancer at the Mulago Cancer Institute.
His passing compounds the sorrow already gripping the Tooro royal family, which continues to mourn King Oyo.
The former monarch died on 27 August 2026 in the United States while receiving treatment for cancer.
Prince David first drew widespread public notice in 2015 when he openly challenged the authority of his cousin, the then-reigning King Oyo, in a dispute that stirred considerable debate within the kingdom.
The latest loss arrives only days after the Babiito succession committee named his younger brother, Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, as Tooro’s new king in the wake of Oyo’s death.
The development deepens a difficult period marked by mourning and ongoing tensions surrounding the contested succession.
Additional information regarding the precise circumstances of his death, as well as funeral and burial arrangements, is expected to be released in due course.
