UK Names Rebecca Fabrizi as New Ambassador to South Sudan

Britain has appointed Rebecca Fabrizi as its next ambassador to South Sudan.

She will succeed David Ashley, who is due to complete his posting next month, the British Embassy in Juba announced on Wednesday.

Fabrizi is expected to assume the role in early October.

She brings more than 30 years of diplomatic experience, having held senior positions across Europe, Africa and Asia, according to the embassy.

“I am honoured to have been appointed as the next British Ambassador to South Sudan,” Fabrizi said in a statement.

She added that she looks forward to working with the South Sudanese government, civil society and international partners on issues of peace, stability and development.

Outgoing ambassador David Ashley, who leaves next month, reaffirmed Britain’s continued commitment to the country.

He highlighted ongoing support for health, education and humanitarian services.

“Only peace and better use of national revenues can take this country forward,” Ashley said, noting that this would remain his message to South Sudan’s leaders in his final weeks in the post.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office first announced Fabrizi’s appointment on 4 August.
