From Mbarara Passion Project to Kampala Party General – DJ Alberto 43 Set to Celebrate 15 Years Behind the Decks

This Sunday, September 27, 2026, Uganda’s nightlife scene will light up as DJ Alberto 43 (born Albert Kakye) marks 15 years as a professional deejay with a milestone celebration at Black Panther in Kampala.

Tables are available in two categories—Buddies at UGX 1 million and Originals at UGX 2 million—with the night promising high-energy sets, special guests, and a full-circle moment for the man known as “The Party General” and the force behind the 43 Effect brand.

“15 years is not just a mere celebration. It’s a celebration of the people who made me, believed in me, supported me, moved with me and have been part of this journey from the very beginning,” Alberto remarked on his Social Media Platforms.

Guests and collaborators expected include longtime associates such as Dj Hjozeh (who has been with him “from day one”), DJ Sky, and others, alongside activations that have already included road trips back to western Uganda and B2B sets.

The Early Years: Passion Over Paychecks

Born on January 9, 1989, in Ruhaama, Ntungamo District, to Rev. Canon Ronald Kakye and Night Kakye, Albert Kakye grew up in a Christian family and attended schools in the Mbarara area, including Nyakayojo Primary and Secondary before A-level at Mbarara Modern School. He enrolled at Uganda Christian University (UCU) in 2010 for a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication.

His love for music and sound equipment began in high school around 2004 at Nyakayojo Secondary, where he bought a system for student entertainment.

The professional turn came during university.

Classmates pushed him onto the decks at Casablanca in Mukono; he started on probation Wednesdays and quickly earned Friday nights. He also worked in the UCU sound room to help cover tuition.

“I started doing it initially for fun and passion, but not the money,” he told The Observer in 2017.

“This is who I am.”

The “43” in his name came from early advice by DJ Nelly Sting in Mbarara, who suggested adding a unique identifier because too many Albertos were already online.

Mentors and peers such as DJ Sky who taught him key computer skills while he was in Mukono and Dj Hjozeh have remained part of the story across the decade and a half.

Building a Career and Changing Perceptions in Western Uganda

By the mid-2010s Alberto 43 had become a fixture in Mbarara and beyond.

He held residencies at Ice Lounge Mbarara and Mist Bar in Kabale, mixed live on Crooze FM, and took guest gigs at places like Angels Royale in Lira and Life Lounge in Kigali.

He played major events including Jose Chameleone’s Hit after Hit concert, Club Dome, Ekinihiiro, Kampala and Mbarara carnivals, and Club Mega Fest.

Awards followed, including Blink Media DJ of the Year (2015 and 2016) and Royal Events DJ of the Year 2015.

He also launched a deejaying school at City Light Arcade in Mbarara (opened May 2017 with 17 pioneer students) with the explicit goal of professionalizing the craft and challenging the stereotype that deejaying was only for “bayaaye.”

Parallel to the decks he built the 43 Effect brand, selling merchandise (caps, T-shirts, hoodies) and diversifying into other ventures while balancing family life.

Married to Lonah Akandinda (his high-school sweetheart), he is a father of three.

Family support was hard-won. His priest father initially resisted the career choice but eventually bought him a mixer.

Alberto has long emphasized consistency, creativity, and treating deejaying as a serious profession—working nights while making daytime family time.

The Move to Kampala and the Road to 15 Years

In recent years Alberto relocated to Kampala, the country’s entertainment hub, and began headlining his own events under the “Originals of Alberto43” banner.

The first major Kampala edition took place in June 2025 at Pier One Lounge & Restaurant in Ntinda. He has continued building residencies and one-off sets across venues including Black Panther, Taboo, Vanquish, and others, while maintaining ties to western Uganda through road-trip activations and appearances.

The 15-year countdown has included special B2B sets, a reflective sit-down interview, partnerships – notably with Hygiene Consultants, and nostalgic stops in places like Mbarara and Kabale where he spent formative years.

His YouTube channel features live sets, mixes, and promotional content for the milestone, underscoring a career that has moved from campus parties and regional clubs to national recognition.

What the Night Represents

Sunday’s Black Panther event is both a personal and professional landmark.

It honors the network of mentors, peers, venues, and fans who supported him from the early Mbarara days through the transition to Kampala.

Alberto has repeatedly framed the celebration around gratitude rather than individual glory, while continuing to push for greater professionalism and respect for deejays in Uganda’s nightlife industry.

For those who have followed the Party General’s journey—from a mass-communication student spinning for passion in Mukono to a branded entrepreneur and respected selector with a growing national footprint—September 27 offers a chance to dance through 15 years of music, hustle, and growth.

Tables are booking, the decks are ready, and the 43 Effect is rolling into its next chapter.
