Suspect Shot Dead, Four Arrested After Panga-Armed Gang Storms Bugoye Police Station in Kasese

One suspect is dead and four others are in custody after a group of men armed with pangas attacked Bugoye Sub-County Police Station in Kasese District in the early hours of Thursday, October 1, 2026.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said the attack happened at about 2:00am. Roughly six men stormed the station and tried to seize a firearm from the officer on duty.

The officer resisted and shot one of the attackers in the leg, Rusoke said. The wounded man ran from the scene but was later found dead a short distance away.

Police have not yet established the dead man’s identity. His body was taken to the mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack. Police named them as Irumba Simon, Kiiza Abson, Kadama George and Baluku Lenaxi. A panga was also recovered at the scene.

Investigations are ongoing to establish what led to the attack and to track down the other suspects who escaped.

Police have asked anyone with information that could help identify or locate those still at large to report to their nearest police station. Rusoke said, “We call upon members of the public with information that may help identify or locate those who fled to report it to the nearest police station.” Residents were also urged to report any suspicious activity that may be linked to the incident.

Police added that they remain alert and ready to respond quickly to attacks on police facilities and officers.
