Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was Thursday morning arrested as he tried to leave his home in Wakaliga, Kampala.
He was picked as he gave a live interview to NTV Uganda.
The Lord Mayor was put on a Police Vehicle and whisked to Kira Police Station.
At about 11:10, Lukwago was transferred from Kira Police Division in Namugongo to Naggalama Police Station.
Lukwago is among the politicians that are opposing the age limit removal bill, which is expected to be tabled in Parliament today.
The bill expected to be tabled by Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi seeks to delete article 102b that provides for the upper age limit of 75 above which one is not allowed to stand for president.
If the article is not deleted, Uganda’s three-decade president Yoweri Museveni will be ineligible for reelection when the east African land locked third world country next goes to the polls in 2021.
The Tower Post has learnt that Magyezi’s motion has been scraped off Thursday’s order paper.
MORE ARRESTS
Meanwhile, Democratic Party president Norbert Mao was blocked from accessing Parliament. He would later drive away.
But FDC’s Ingrid Turinawe was not as “lucky”.
Turinawe and three other protesters were arrested around Mini Price Complex in Downtown Kampala and detained at Central Police Station.
