Singer Bobi Wine’s international lawyer Robert Amsterdam has blamed the United States government for the brutal actions of Ugandan armed forces against the citizens.
Amsterdam was Thursday evening addressing journalists together with his client Bobi Wine in Washington DC, America.
“Washington has overall control of whatever is going on in Uganda,” he said.
“We need the American tax payer to know that they are funding the actions of torture by the Army using American supplied equipment. The aid we are giving to Uganda is funding the reign of terror by the Ugandan government.”
Amsterdam further referred to Museveni’s regime as a “Foreign Agent of American military” before calling on the U.S government to suspend military aid to Uganda.
“Despite what is going on, America has remained mute. We are accumulating enough medical evidence to take it to the right authority to seek justice for Bobi Wine and the other 33 that were brutalized.”
Warns torturers.
The lawyer sounded a warning to the elements in the armed forces who are carrying out the acts of brutalization to take note since “we are consulting with the United Nations Human Rights Committee to see that you are brought to book.”
“Torturers be warned!”
“Your ability to travel, ability to hold assets abroad stands at risk.”
About Bobi Wine’s situation and return to Uganda, Amsterdam cast a cloud of doubt on what is awaiting the legislator saying it will be worse than what he left.
“The treatment he [Bobi Wine] is receiving here will be negated by the treatment he will receive when he gets back to Uganda.”
“Those who work with Bobi should ensure his security when he comes back to Uganda.”
