Kyadondo East Member of Parliament and musician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has spoken out on the cancellation of his Saturday evening concert in Jinja and arrest of members of his team by security forces.
Speaking to journalists at his home in Magere on Sunday, Bobi Wine revealed how me escaped arrest in Jinja and found his way to Kampala.
According to the musician, Police in Jinja on Saturday raided City Hotel, in which he had booked and mounted a search for him despite the fact that he was supported to perform at a concert they had cleared.
Bobi wine revealed that despite the numerous roadblocks by security forces with the intention of arresting him, he managed to find his way to Kampala on Sunday morning.
“I want assure my funs that I will perform all my music shows , don’t worry, these guys don’t know how we operate,” he said.
He noted that by blocking his shows, the state was attacking the entire music industry and yet they are aware that he is a musician and has a right to perform.
“Government is denying me my performing rights without any clear reasons. I call upon all artists to raise their voice because government is attacking music industry,” he said.
Bobi Wine further revealed that his efforts to get an explanation from Police heads have remained futile.
“We have written to inspector General of police explaining our grievances but we haven’t got a reply yet,” he said, adding police is supposed to keep law and order instead of “attacking innocent people and blocking my shows”.
“It’s better for police to prosecute me in the court of law if it is a crime to perform in a music show instead of blocking my music concerts without clear reasons,” Bobi Wine said
“I want to ask inspector General of Police and his deputy, why are you persecuting me, why are you attacking me, why are you infringing on my rights” he added.
