Uganda’s veteran opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye talked to politicians Mugisha Muntu and Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, his People’s Government has said.
Last week, Besigye inaugurated his People’s Government but emerging politician and musician Bobi Wine, also the Kyadondo East MP, was missing, and so was Muntu, the former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president.
But the People’s Government Minister for Information and KCCA, Betty Bakireke Nambooze, has now revealed that Besigye talked to Muntu, Bobi Wine, Democratic Party (DP) president general Norbert Mao and Jeema’s Asuman Basalirwa about People’s Government.
“Invite DP President Nobert Mao and ask him if ‘President’ Kizza Besigye didn’t consult; go and ask Kyagulanyi if President Kizza Besigye didn’t consult him on what he has been doing with People’s Government,” Nambooze, also the People’s Government spokesperson, told Buganda Kingdom TV BBS.
“If they tell you he has never consulted them, then conclude Besigye is a very bad man.”
On including Bobi Wine, Muntu, Mao, Basalirwa and other opposition figures on the People’s Government cabinet, Nambooze said Besigye was dealing with them on the level of principals.
She added that the principals would meet at a later date to decide on a joint candidate but they should not be forced to agree on single candidate “because where leaders may not agree, the people will always agree on whom they want to lead them”.
“People are not stupid. As leaders, we may fail to agree because we have failed before, but people always agree on who should lead them,” said Nambooze, who doubles as Mukono Municipality MP.
“The problem is that even if you fielded one candidate, will that stop Museveni from rigging like he has been doing? In 2016, he gave himself 60 per cent. Even if all the other Presidential candidates had supported one candidate, according to Museveni results, the candidate would be given 39 per cent.”
