East African Community (EAC) chiefs of military intelligence and their directors are meeting in Entebbe, Uganda, to discuss security and cooperation.

In the meeting that will happen September 3-4, the chiefs will also discuss East Africa military games, command post and field training exercises as well as cultural events.

The chiefs are also expected to discuss ways of combating terrorism, cybercrime, and smuggling of small arms.

Lt Gen James Mugira, the former managing director of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), opened the meeting on behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces Gen David Muhoozi at Protea Hotel in Entebbe.

Mugira told guests that “Uganda is very safe” but challenged them to work together to deal with an upsurge of local, regional and international insecurity “since the enemy being fought is the same”.

“In such gatherings, solutions are always got because of sharing experiences,” said Mugira.

He also applauded regional intelligence chiefs for “the existing relationship between member states of East Africa”.

He also challenged the chiefs to “design security architectural plan aimed at improving security so as to enhance regional cooperation and steady development among member states”.
