Eight Police Officers Convicted Over Nagirinya Murder

The police disciplinary court has convicted and sentenced eight police over negligence of duty something that led to the kidnap of Maria Nagirinya and eventual death of the social worker.

The officers are; ASPs Muhammad Byansi – Officer in Charge of Natete Police Station, Andrew Nizeyimana – Natete OC CID and Allan Okello- Natete Patrol Commander Officers, Detective Assistant Inspector of Police Sande Baguma, Corporal Samuel Owona, Detective Corporal Reuben Kibikwamu, Police Constable Joshua Basaliza and Police Constable Deo Kitutu.

Nagirinya was killed on August 28 along with her driver Ronald Kitayimbwa and Nagirinya.

The officers have been battling charges ever since President Museveni ordered for the arrest of the officers who were monitoring the CCTV camera command centre on the fateful day.

Fred Enanga says that the officers have been convicted of the charges by the police court.

“The Police disciplinary court has found them of guilty after neglecting their duties. They failed to immediately respond to a report of a double kidnap. They also violated the requirement of duty of remaining alert while on duty,”

Six out of the eight officers were sentenced to reprimands.
