The Uganda Police has instructed all commuters to limit their passengers to only eight people instead of 14 as a way to stop the spread of coronavirus.
The Inspector-General of Police Martin Okoth Ochola has ordered the Traffic and Road Safety to implement the new directives immediately.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga confirmed the development saying that “The IGP gave these orders and traffic officers must enforce them. We are also going to ensure that taxi and bus parks have disinfectants and passengers must use them before they board.”
Buses that have been carrying 69 passengers will now carry 59.
In his last public address, President Museveni said public transport was the window remaining after closing borders, shutting down schools and public gatherings.
He advised people to stop using public means
“If you don’t have a personal vehicle, it is better you don’t use public means,” he said.
