President Museveni has revealed that the government is set to start giving out face masks to Ugandans on June, 10. This, he said while giving an update about the status of coronavirus in the country yesterday June 1 at Nakesero State House.
“We shall start giving out the government face masks on the 10th of June. The companies may not produce what is enough for the whole country at once but whatever they produce, we shall put it where it is needed most. We will start with border districts since they need them most,” President Museveni said.
The President also noted that the delay was as a result of company identification and procurement setbacks.
President Museveni in his address of March, 18 noted that government had identified the need to provide all Ugandans with face masks in order to act as a firewall against the novel Covid-19 disease before completely easing the lockdown.
Museveni also projected the distribution of face masks to all citizens of Uganda to take a period of only two weeks.
This, however, triggered a national debate with some observers blaming the government for turning Covid-19 disease into a business.
“How will the government provide face masks to all Ugandans in just two weeks yet it has failed to provide relief food to the entire government since the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic?” one of the citizens ranted on the Twitter.
The border districts that will receive the government face masks first include; Katuna, Mutukula, Elegu, Busia, Amuru, among others.
It is after these districts have got face masks that other districts in Uganda shall also get the government face masks according to the president of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
