Police Officer, UNRA Employee Arrested for Shooting Western Youth MP Aspirant

A police officer and an employee of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) have been arrested in connection to the shooting of Simon Katuramu, an aspirant for Western Region Youth Member of Parliament.

Rwizi Regional Police spokesperson Samson Kasasira has identified the two as Osoda John Davis, an officer attached to the Police Counter Terrorism Unit and Mutabazi Patrick Robert, a UNRA driver.

According to Kasasira, the duo is being held at Mbarara Central Police Station. Charges preferred against them remain unknown.

Katuramu was shot at the Mbarara weigh bridge on Tuesday as he travelled in a truck carrying iron sheets.

Police officers allegedly asked them to stop but they were hesitant which prompted the officers to open fire at the car.

Katuramu was shot in the chest but survived.

The other occupant of the car died on spot.
