Police in Jinja has fired tear gas to disperse crowds who were escorting and cheering Forum for Democratic Change – FDC presidential flag bearer Patrick Oboi Amuriat.

Photos shared by local publisher Bukedde Online show Amuriat’s SUV engulfed in tear gas although there are no crowds in the pictures.

Amuriat is travelling to Soroti, Eastern Uganda where he is scheduled to hold his manifesto launch ceremony before embarking on a countrywide campagn trail.

Earlier in the day, this website reported that Police and the army had deployed heavily in Soroti ahead of the event.

Several other presidential aspirants have started on their campaigns today with ruling National Resistance Movement – NRM’s Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Museveni in Luweero, National Unity Platform – NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi in West Nile among others.
