Paul Owor Denies Defrauding Chinese Businessman, Blasts Police

Former Busiro South Constituency MP contestant Paul Owor a.k.a Hustle King has lashed at Police for soliciting a bribe from him and later arresting and holding him for close to a week.

Owor was arrested on Friday May 14th together with other three colleagues on charges of obtaining money with false pretense.

According to Police, Owor posed as a lawyer and conned a Chinese firm of USD 22,000 (approx. 77m) promising that he would help secure the release of their colleagues who had been arrested selling fake agro-products.

But Owor said on Tuesday morning that the Police is telling the public a wrong story to clear their image.

“It’s only Uganda police that asks for a bribe of over 50m, you give it to them and they refuse to give your friend a bond and when you demand for it they arrest you for extortion. Jinja Road police I am coming for you. I will tell the whole world the real story,” he posted on his Twitter timeline.

Owor says the charges preferred against him are wrong, a reason why they have been changed three times in a period of less than a week.

He further castigated the Police for holding him “illegally” despite having secured a court order for unconditional release.

“Because Jinja road police is in Panic, they changed the case thrice, from Extortion to general inquiry and as per yesterday they changed it to Obtaining money by false pretense.”

“Illegally holding me for one week for demanding for what is mine is the worst thing you did. Even after getting a court order of Unconditional release from Nakawa Grade 1 magistrate and a letter from legal team at the police Headquarters you continued holding me illegally because you know I will expose you.”

He went ahead to defend the arrested Chinese men saying the products they had were not fake but just expired.

“The Chinese’s chemicals where not fake, they were expired so they had kept them pending disposal since they cannot just be disposed like any trash. The police found them in the warehouse not the market,” he said.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire on Monday said that Owor and his colleagues were scheduled to appear in court today.
