The National Resistance Movement’s Central Executive Committee – CEC has endorsed Bukedea Woman Member of Parliament Anita Among as the party flag bearer in the race for speakership.

The news was revealed by NRM vice chairperson for Eastern Uganda, Capt Mike Mukulua who is also a member of the CEC.

“Rt Hon Anita Among approved by CEC to be the next speaker of Parliament of Uganda,” Mukula tweeted on Wednesday evening.

Among will be finally endorsed by NRM parliamentary caucus tomorrow to face off with any other candidate in a session that will be presided over by the Chief Justice on Friday.

Unlike members of the cabinet, Among is not required by the constitution to first resign her position as Deputy Speaker before running for speakership.

The Speaker’s seat became vacant on Sunday following the passing of Jacob Oulanyah L’Okori who has been occupying it since May 2021.
