Majority of Employers Use Talent Assessment Tools in Their Talent Acquisition

Eighty-six percent of employers said talent assessments were very important to their talent acquisition strategy according to the 2021 Employer Handbook report released today by BrighterMonday Uganda and the Federation of Uganda Employers.

The preferred assessment tools included Psychometric Skills Tests, Personality Tests & the BrighterMonday Uganda Skills Assessment Tool for measuring and evaluating candidates’ skills required for job performance. These tools enable employers to make objective and data-powered decisions. And based on these decisions, candidates are called for an interview, likely after they have presented a police clearance certificate.

In recent years, businesses have become increasingly concerned with finding the best candidate for their particular requirements. With recruiting companies available, businesses can simplify their hiring processes without doubt. In addition, there are companies that specialize in recruiting employees for specific industries. In the restaurant industry, for instance, companies like hospitality headhunter help businesses to find the right employees. The purpose of this process is typically for hiring executives, while assessment tests are still commonly used for hiring freshers in many organizations.

These kinds of tests happen to be some of the most used assessment tools to hire candidates in the fresher category. Though they are efficient and perform their work well, they might not prove as effective in hiring a candidate for the law profession or similar positions. In such roles, mostly a face-to-face interview is preferred, wherein the help of recruiters such as Alex Gotch and the like could be sought.

In today’s world, there are many cases in which third-party recruitment agencies design such assessment tests. In cases where businesses do not have the necessary expertise and resources to handle such assessments, they use recruitment agencies (like Recruitment agency Shrewsbury, Shropshire), which can assist them in finding the right people for jobs. This makes the staffing process relatively easy and smooth for businesses.

“The report covered a wide range of concerns for employers in line with the talent assessment, acquisition and training but, the biggest standout was the overwhelming preference for talent assessment by employers.” Pius Ngoga the BrighterMonday Uganda Business Development Manager said.

“This report highlights the key concerns of employers around the most important aspect of any business, getting the right people. Employers want to know that the person they are getting can do the work or adapt to their culture. That is why we also saw positive responses on the use of job simulations, structured interviews and more modern tools.”

We would like the general public to take advantage of the FUE Job Portal which enables Employers to publish job vacancies and sieve through applicant profiles to select suitable candidates for various positions whereas Job seekers have access to numerous opportunities to advance their professional careers. Our portal can be accessed at https://jobs.fuemployers.org.”

Beatrice Mujuni, the Policy Advocacy & Communications Officer at the Federation of Uganda Employers said.

The report is a product of the joint partnership between BrighterMonday Uganda & the Federation of Uganda Employers to research, collaborate and advance the transformative agenda to improve data driven insights for employers in Uganda.

More than 600 employers participated in the report survey in November last year ranging from CEOs (6%), Human Resource for Recruitment Managers (15%), Department Heads (16%) among others.

Majority of the employers had less than fifty employees (52%) while 30% had more than one-hundred employees. Half of them were based in Kampala with 4% in Entebbe & 3% in Jinja.

Banking, NGOs, manufacturing and education were among the most represented sectors in responses for the report.
