Unboxing and First Impressions of the TECNO Camon 19 Pro

TECNO Mobile recently launched their flagship device in the Camon series, the TECNO Camon 19.

The smartphone which was launched in partnership with MTN Uganda promised a range of new and exciting features, top of which was excellent photography, improved style and external appeal among others.

“The TECNO CAMON 19 series is the answer for consumers around the world who are seeking a premium smartphone that combines style and performance with an elevated photographic experience,” Timmy Shen, the Brand Manager for TECNO Mobile Uganda said in his remarks during the launch.

I had to acquire this device and see for myself.

The Camon 19 came with three variants; TECNO Camon 19, TECNO Camon 19 Pro and the TECNO Camon 19 Pro 5G.

For my review, I got the TECNO Camon 19 Pro and for the next few days, I will be using the device to understand it performance. I will discover what makes the device good and which areas they could have done better.

But before that, I performed a quick unboxing to understand what you should expect in the box and also share a few first impressions of the device.

Inside the box

Opening the box, you are greeted by the smartphone which lies face up on top. Below it is a transparent TPU case.

In the bottom compartment, you will find a 33watts fast charger that can charge this smartphone from zero to 100% in 1.5hours.

You also get earphones, a USB type C cable and a sim ejector tool.

About the Phone.

The TECNO Camon 19 Pro comes in two colours – Echo Black and Polar Blue. For my review, I got the Polar Blue.

Build quality

The device rear side is made of plastic and attracts no finger prints and smudges. The Plastic frame however leaves fingerprints.

On the front, it doesn’t have corning gorilla glass protection and also this smartphone has no IP rating. Do not make a mistake and submerge it into water and whenever you can, please protect it from dust.

Moving to the external features, it has two microphones; one at the top and another at the bottom.

It has ultra-thin bezels to the extent that even the ear piece is on top of the smartphone. It has a dual 4G sim and memory card slots on one plate on the left side.

At the bottom, it has a 3.5mm audio jack, a microphone, USB type C port and a mono speaker.

On the right side is where the volume and power buttons are located. The power button doubles as the finger print scanner and the unlock speed using a finger print is instant although it is slowed down by the animation.

On the back, it has a 64MP super night main camera with optical image stabilization, a 50MP telephoto camera, a 2MP depth camera with a led flashlight by the side and laser auto focus sensors that are hidden just above the two cameras.

On the front, it has a 32MP selfie camera with no led flashlight and that’s because there is simply no space to fix it on the device’s ultra-thin bezels.

At 0.98 millimetres, the TECNO Camon 19 Pro has one of the thiniest bezels out there.

Screen

The device has a 6.8 inch full HD display with a refresh rate at 120Hz. I will however need to explore more about its performance and this will feature in my review.

Battery

Powering this phone is a 5000mAH battery and allows fast charging.

Sound quality

The sound is loud enough but the base is lacking.

The general look of the TECNO Camon 19 Pro is very appealing. It’s the kind of device that you can hold and feel confident but that’s only the outside.

I will be sharing a full review in a few days from now.
