The first live action from the NBA arrives on the morning of Saturday 5 November, with the Boston Celtics hosting the Chicago Bulls at TD Garden (01:45 LIVE on ESPN 2).
Celtic star Jayson Tatum will be hoping to continue his fine form, and has admitted that the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award is a major goal for his career: “I mean, it’s early but (the MVP) has always been a goal of mine,” he acknowledged.
“When I was a kid, getting into the NBA wasn’t all I wanted to do. I wanted to be a champion, reach all those accolades and accomplishments, and MVP is obviously at the top of that list.”
Saturday night also brings a battle between the Orlando Magic and the Sacramento Kings (23:00 LIVE on ESPN 2).
The Magic will once again have the chance to unleash exciting rookie Paolo Banchero, who became the first player since LeBron James to register 25-5-5 (27 points, nine rebounds and five assists) in his NBA debut, a 113-109 loss to the Detroit Pistons in mid-October.
“It means a lot, I guess,” Banchero said after the game. “Obviously, would have liked to win. But I just wanted to play hard, play for the team, and that happened, so it’s a blessing.”
He added, “It’s always nice to see the ball get in that early, get easy buckets around the rim. That’s how I try to play, inside out. Try to get easy stuff around the basket and expand out and do more stuff throughout the game.”
The final live weekend action from the NBA arrives on the night of Sunday 6 November, with the Los Angeles Lakers taking on the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Crypto.com Arena in the ‘City of Angels’ (22:30 LIVE on ESPN).
Donovan Mitchell has impressed since joining the Cavs and will be eager to make another major statement against the Lakers.
“He’s comfortable,” Cavaliers coach J.B. Bickerstaff said of Mitchell’s play. “I think it’s that easy. This isn’t something he hasn’t done before. He’s carried teams on his back so he understands the moment and he’s capable of it. It’s not new, and it’s what we expected from him.”
