UPL: Bright Stars Finally Pick First Win of the Season

Bright Stars picked their first win of the season following their 2-1 victory over Onduparaka on Tuesday.

The Stars opened the scoring in the first minute of the game through Innocent Kitimbo but Dominic Abanga levelled matters for Onduparaka before the break.

Then Nelson Senkatuuka scored the winner in the second stanza to ensure that his side picked maximum points at home.

It is the first win for Asaph Mwebaze’s men who were winless in the opening seven games.

For Onduparaka, their woes continued as they suffered their fourth consecutive loss in the season and remain rock bottom on the Log with just a single point.

Coming into this game, Bright Stars had not registered any win and had suffered back to back defeats in their recent two games.

But on Tuesday, they earned a bright start when Kitimbo put them ahead in the first minute of the games, with a thunderous effort.

The Visitors later on responded in the 22nd minute through Abanga, who benefited from a poor clearance by the Stars backline to level matters before half time.

After the break, the hosts returned back a more rejuvenated side and they showed early intent to score more.

And with four minutes past the hour mark, Senkatuuka put his side back into the lead and his goal could later turn out winner.

In the closing stages, Onduparaka tried to stage a come back but once again lacked enough ideas in the final third.

Victory ensured that Bright Stars registered their first win of the season and moved to 11th position with now 8 points after eight games. The win also is a relief to head coach Asaph Mwebaze and he will be seeking to build on that in the upcoming games.

For Onduparaka, it was another poor day them as they suffered their fourth defeat in a row. They remain rock bottom, winless with just one point and must pull up their sockings if they are to avoid relegation this season.

What Next – Bright Stars will be away to Express on Tuesday 22nd November while Onduparaka host Wakiso the following day at Bombo.
