The highly anticipated clash between SC Villa and Vipers SC at Wankulukuku Stadium this Saturday has been postponed, The Tower Post reports.
The development was revealed by SC Villa officials in a post through their Social Media platforms.
“Our Saturday fixture against Vipers SC in the Uganda Premier League has been postponed. New date to be communicated,” the statement reads.
SC Villa have lost key players to Uganda Hippos duty for the African Games.
With more than three players from SC Villa named in the Uganda Hippos squad, including Umar Lutalo, Patrick Kakande, Cyrus Kibande, and Abbas Kyeyune, among others, Fufa competition rules stipulate that fixtures involving such teams can be called off.
Among other SC Villa players in the Uganda Hippos team are Hakim Mutebi, Delton Oyo, and Charles Batiibwe.
The first leg encounter between the two clubs ended in a thrilling 1-1 draw at Kitende, with Garvin Kizito Mugweri opening the scoring for SC Villa before Patrick Mbowa equalized for Vipers under the floodlights.
As it stands, SC Villa currently sits in fifth place with 30 points, just one point adrift of third-placed Vipers, who have played one game fewer.
The African Games are set to kick off on Friday, March 8, 2024, in Ghana.
