The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has released the 2024 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results, showing a significant increase in candidature and improved performance in various subjects.
Prof. Celestino Obua, Chairman of UNEB, presented the results at a ceremony held at State House, Nakasero, in the presence of the Minister of Education and Sports, Parliamentarians, and other stakeholders.
According to Prof. Obua, the examination was successfully conducted between November 11 and December 6, 2024, with 1,294,731 candidates assessed across three examinations.
Key Highlights
- A near-exponential increase in candidature, from 110,566 in 2023 to nearly 142,000 in 2024.
- A proportional reduction in the number of candidates who did not report to take examinations, a trend observed over the past three years.
- A continued upward trend in the number of candidates offering STEM subjects, although numbers remain lower than those offering humanities subjects.
- Female candidates performed better than their male counterparts at all levels, with lower failure rates.
Rehabilitation Efforts Bear Fruit
Lozira Upper Prison was commended for its exceptional rehabilitation efforts, with all candidates obtaining USCE certificates with at least a principal PASS level.
Malpractice Cases Decrease
The 2024 USCE examination recorded the least number of cases of examination malpractice compared to previous years, resulting in very few results being withheld.
The release of the UACE results marks the end of the examination cycle for 2024. UNEB has pledged to continue improving the examination process and promoting academic excellence in Uganda
