President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa, has been duly nominated to stand in the 2026 General Election, officially kicking off his bid for a seventh consecutive term in office.
The nomination cements Museveni’s position as the flagbearer of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), which endorsed him as its sole candidate during a party conference earlier this year.
Party officials revealed that more than 2.2 million signatures were collected countrywide to back his candidature which has been confirmed by the Electoral Commission today.
The President who was accompanied by his wife and Minister of Education Janet Kataaha Museveni, NRM first Vice Chairperson AlHajji Moses Kigongo and Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among pleadged to “safeguard Uganda’s hard-won gains and ensure steady progress.”
He will later in the day address his supporters in a post nomination rally slated to take place today afternoon at Kololo Independent grounds where he is expected to unveil his full manifesto.
Festivities have already began in the Capital Kampala where his adoring fans are eagerly waiting to welcome him.

Over 20 performers including musicians, dancers and comedians are expected to entertain Museveni’s supporters.
Notable among the performers is singer Moses Ssali who has been a logn time supporter and mobiliser for the ruling party, for the last two decades.
He will perform alongside other musical giants including Dr. Jose Chameleone, Ray G, Alien Skin, Weasel Manizo among others.
