Police in Randburg, South Africa has arrested two Ugandan nationals for allegedly conning and defrauding a cancer ailing woman of all her life savings.
The two who were posing as traditional healers convinced the desperate woman who was battling cancer that they would use traditional herbs and a jinn to heal her of the disease and recover all the money she had spent on treatment.
According to local South African news outlet Eyewitness News, the two have connections to Rich Gang crew which was headed by the late Ivan Semwanga.
They reportedly used a 12 year old kid to convince her.
The unsuspecting woman would later visit the “traditional healers” in their shrine in Randburg where different rituals were performed before proceeding to “recovering the money.”
Randburg is located in the outskirts of Johannesburg.
The woman was reportedly asked to gather cash equivalent to the money spent on treatment and that the healers would perform rituals on the cash to recover the spent money.
The woman had used close to 1 million Rands.
How the money was taken
The woman was given a bag in which she would pile the money, ordered to put in it in the corner of her house and the healers would perform rituals on it.
The two Ugandans came with an exact replica of the bag, filled with papers and after performing their rituals, replaced the money bag with the bag full of papers.
It’s after checking that the woman realized she had been conned of all her money, some of which she had borrowed.
Police, on being noticed, swung into action, arresting the two whose names have been concealed so as not to interfere with their investigations.
They however disclosed that one is aged 41 while the other is aged 32 and that they are of Ugandan origin.
This is not the first time Ugandans are arrested over posing as witchdoctors while a number of others have been implicated in shoddy deals.
