A local official reported that at least three women from Unity State lost their lives in an assault on Sunday in Rumbek North County, located in the adjacent Lakes State.
According to Mayendit County Commissioner John Matip Gatluok, the victims were on a boat journey from Juba, the capital, heading to Mayendit County in Unity State when the attack occurred.
He named the deceased as Nyamal Riang Chan, Nyabouk Manyang, and Nyakuong.Gatluok attributed the incident to armed young men from Rumbek North County and criticized the authorities in that area for not carrying out any arrests.
He described the murders as part of continuing cycles of revenge attacks between the bordering communities.
“I strongly denounce this event that claimed the lives of innocent people,” Gatluok stated.
This incident comes after multiple violent clashes the previous week involving groups from Tonj South County in Warrap State and Mayendit County in Unity State.
