Uganda Premier League side SC Villa has completed the signing of veteran centre-back Farouk ‘Musota’ Matovu as their first reinforcement during the mid-season transfer window.
The 34-year-old defender has penned a two-year contract with the Jogoos after a recent stint at Entebbe UPPC.
Matovu brings extensive top-flight experience, having previously played for prominent clubs including Express FC, URA FC, KCCA FC, and others.
Announcing the capture on their official platforms, SC Villa described Matovu as a “proven leader and reliable defender” expected to add steel and composure to their backline.
“I am loving everything here at Villa,” Matovu said in a statement published on the club website.
“The coaches have shown faith in me by giving me this opportunity, and I am ready to repay that trust. I am optimistic about playing here for the next two years.”
Matovu joins a defence that has shown strong form in recent weeks, keeping clean sheets in Villa’s last three league matches.
His arrival is seen as timely reinforcement ahead of a busy period that includes domestic and cup commitments.
Currently sitting fourth on the Uganda Premier League table with 34 points, SC Villa will next face BUL FC in the Uganda Cup round of 32 fixture on Wednesday.
The tie is expected to test the Jogoos’ defensive solidity as they aim to progress deep into the knockout competition.
Head coach Mourice Juma and the technical team are optimistic that Matovu’s leadership, aerial ability, and positional awareness will help maintain the team’s recent defensive resilience while pushing for a higher finish in the league standings.
The signing underscores SC Villa’s intent to strengthen key areas during the mid-season window as they chase silverware on multiple fronts in the 2025/26 campaign.
