Museveni Chairs UPDF High Command Meeting at State House Entebbe

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who also serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF), presided over a High Command meeting at State House Entebbe on Tuesday.

The session, held as per tradition, reviewed the national security situation, the UPDF’s domestic readiness, and ongoing regional operations.

Discussions focused on internal stability following the recently concluded general elections, as well as the force’s deployments beyond Uganda’s borders.

The meeting brought together the top echelon of UPDF leadership, including: Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Deputy CDF Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding, Commander Land Forces Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, Commander Reserve Force Lt. Gen. Otema Awany, Commander Air Force Lt. Gen. Charles Okidi and Commander Special Forces Command (SFC) Maj. Gen. David Mugisha.

Other service commanders, chiefs of staff, and senior officers were also in attendance.

Representatives from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs included Minister Jacob Oboth Oboth, State Minister Huda Oleru Abason, and Permanent Secretary Ms. Rosette Byengoma.

The gathering follows the peaceful conduct of the 2026 general elections, which domestic and international observers widely described as the most tranquil in Uganda’s electoral history.

During the recent Tarehe Sita anniversary celebrations earlier this month, the CDF commended security forces for maintaining law and order throughout the campaign and polling period, and thanked Ugandans for their cooperation in ensuring a violence-free process.

Beyond Uganda’s borders, the UPDF continues to play a significant role in regional stability operations. Troops remain deployed in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo under Operation Shujaa (jointly with FARDC against ADF), in South Sudan supporting transitional security arrangements, in the Central African Republic as part of multinational stabilisation efforts, and in Somalia under the African Union mission (ATMIS/AUSSOM) to combat Al-Shabaab.

No official communique detailing specific decisions or resolutions from the High Command meeting has been released at the time of publication.

Such sessions are typically strategic in nature and often result in classified directives rather than public announcements.

The meeting underscores the UPDF’s dual focus on safeguarding national security while fulfilling Uganda’s commitments to regional peace and counter-terrorism efforts in the Horn of Africa and Great Lakes region.
