URA FC secured their first win in 10 matches with a hard-fought 2–0 victory over Mbarara City in a rain-disrupted Uganda Premier League encounter at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.
Ronald Otti opened the scoring in the 35th minute, finishing off a well-worked move assisted by Disan Galiwango after a patient build-up from the back.
The hosts doubled their lead shortly before halftime when referee awarded a penalty after Mbarara goalkeeper Derrick Emukule fouled Fred Amaku inside the area.
Moses Waiswa stepped up and calmly converted from the spot in the 43rd minute.
Heavy rain intensified after the break, making the pitch increasingly slippery and waterlogged.
In the 55th minute, the centre referee suspended play due to unsafe conditions.
Stadium management and ground staff worked to clear surface water before the match resumed from the same minute.
URA managed the remainder of the game effectively in the challenging conditions, restricting Mbarara City to few clear chances and holding firm to secure a valuable three points.
Otti was named Man of the Match for his influential performance, including the decisive opening goal.
The result lifts URA to 18 points from 18 matches, though they remain in 12th position.
Mbarara City sit one place and three points below them, still searching for consistency.In the day’s other fixture, Express FC and Maroons FC played out a 1–1 draw.
Maroons took the lead in the 75th minute through Jackson Nunda. Express responded six minutes later when Kenneth Kimera equalised in the 81st minute, assisted by Mickdadi Ssenyonga, to earn a point for the Red Eagles.
The draw extends Express’ winless run to five matches — their last victory was a 3–1 win over Buhimba United Saints — and marks their fourth consecutive stalemate.
Express remain 10th on 19 points.Maroons, whose last win was a 3–1 victory over Express on December 17 last year, sit one place above the Red Eagles on goal difference.
