Kampala Capital City Authority FC (KCCA FC) will be without five important players when they host arch-rivals Express FC in a high-stakes StarTimes Uganda Premier League derby clash at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Wednesday.
The match, to be played under floodlights, comes as KCCA aim to maintain pressure on league leaders while Express seek to climb from mid-table.
The absences were confirmed ahead of the game:
- Charles Lukwago (club captain and goalkeeper): On compassionate leave following the recent passing of his mother.
- Derrick Nsibambi (assistant captain): Ruled out with a knee injury.
- Bright Anukani (midfielder): Sidelined by a knee injury.
- James Mubezi (forward): Recovering from hand fracture surgery earlier this week; expected to miss significant time.
- Alpha Thierry Ssali (midfielder): Out with a hamstring injury.
Despite the setbacks, KCCA receive boosts with the return of several players to full fitness.
Angolan winger Etienne Katenga and Brazilian winger Joao Gabriel are back after regaining fitness in recent weeks.
Defender Gavin Kizito has returned to full team training following a rib injury sustained in the first half of their previous match against Police FC.
Express FC enter the fixture with a largely fit squad, including the return of midfielder Lawrence Bukenya, who missed their recent derby draw against SC Villa but is available for this clash.
KCCA currently sit in third place with 39 points, chasing the top spot, while Express occupy 10th with 20 points from 19 matches.
The Kasasiro Boys hold a strong recent record against Express, including a 1-0 win in their last meeting in October 2025 (goal by Sammy Ssebaduka).
This Kampala derby promises intensity as both sides look to gain crucial points in the 2025/2026 Uganda Premier League season.
