DRAMA AT MWANGA 11 COURT AS FORENSIC EXPERT ADMITS TO SECRET MEETINGS WITH PASTOR SSENYONGA’S BODYGUARD

The Mwanga II Magistrate’s Court was stunned this afternoon by revelations that Israel Wasswa, a bodyguard to Pastor Jackson Ssenyonga, allegedly approached a forensic expert by posing as a legal representative from Ojambo and Ojambo Advocates. Sources reveal that Waiswa was working on orders of Pastor Sseyonga

Wasswa is one of eight suspects accused of conspiring to tarnish the image of Pastor Robert Kayanja and is a convicted Robber having served two years for aggravated Robbery and assault

The revelation came during a heated cross-examination by State Attorney Jonathan Muwangya.
Under questioning, Uganda Police forensic expert Enock Kanene admitted he did not ask Wasswa for identification when they met, despite collaborating with him throughout the forensic process.
Those in attendance were left dumbfounded after it was revealed that there were over 40 calls between the two with Prosecution providing a phone matrix as evidence.

The two reportedly first made contact after Kanene called the law firm to clarify a discrepancy regarding a phone model mentioned in a request letter. According to testimony, Wasswa arrived at the court following a call from someone identifying himself as a member of the Ojambo legal team.

EXCHANGE IN COURT

State: Can you point out this person if he is in court?

Kanene: He is the one seated in the dock. Israel Wasswa is the person.

State: Prior to your examination, you were in touch with the accused. Did you know he was a party to this case?

Kanene: No, he never told me who he was. We spoke throughout the process.

State: Wasswa called you about 40 times, didn’t he?

Kanene: No, that is not true.

State: How many times do you remember speaking?

Kanene: I don’t remember; I don’t know.

The Defense raised a sharp objection, arguing that the call data was protected and could only be secured via a court order. The State Attorney countered by producing the necessary legal documents: “I have proof that the witness and the accused were in regular contact. I obtained this data lawfully, as evidenced by these court orders, Your Honor.”

The Defense further argued that the data involved a third party, Robert Ojambo, whose privacy should be protected. Magistrate Adams Byarugaba intervened, ruling that while the State held valid orders, the specific data “matrix” involving third parties could not be publicly displayed, though the State could continue its line of questioning.

ALLEGATIONS OF THREATS
As tensions rose, Kanene alleged he was being intimidated, claiming someone had passed him a note threatening him with a grueling three-day cross-examination unless he remained submissive.

The State Attorney reacted strongly to these “wild accusations,” specifically Kanene’s claim that there was a recording of the State instructing him to answer only “Yes” or “No.”

The session reached a breaking point when the Defense applied to have the State Attorney removed from the case. This prompted Magistrate Byarugaba to summon the State, the Defense, and the witness to his chambers for a private meeting.

After an hour-long deliberation, the Magistrate adjourned the case until April 7, 2026.

Background and Prior Convictions

The case involves Reagan Ssentongo and co-accused Sserugo, Labib Khalifa, Alex Wakamala, and Martin Kagolo. It was previously alleged that Ssenyonga’s bodyguard, Israel Wasswa, and Personal Assistant, Aggrey Kanene, took the young men for medical checkups that yielded negative results—a fact a police doctor has since confirmed under oath.

Observers have noted that some suspects appeared “coached” during their testimony. Notably, in 2022, Reagan Ssentongo and Khalifa Labib—both former workers at Pastor Kayanja’s Kiryandongo farm—were sentenced to six years for aggravated robbery and assault. They are currently seeking bail at the Masindi High Court.
