The search committee for the Makerere University vice chancellor has shortlisted former vice chancellor Prof Venansius Baryamureeba, and two other administrators for the job.
Current vice chancellor Prof John Ddumba-Sentamu’s term expires on August 31. According to the University and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001, a vice chancellor at a public university shall run the day-to-day affairs of the institution and be responsible for its administration, academic and financial matters.
It is for this task that the Irene Ovongi-Odida-led search committee has shortlisted Baryamureeba, also a former presidential candidate in 2016 elections, the current deputy vice chancellor for Finance and Administration Prof Barnabas Nawangwe and College of Humanities and Social Sciences (Chuss) principal Prof Edward Kasujja Kirumira.
The search committee will now hand the names of the trio to Senate and Council will pick one of the three administrators.
