Gen Muhoozi Releases Brig Gen Johnson Namanya from Detention After “Amicable Meeting”

Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has ordered the release of Brigadier General Johnson Namanya from military detention following an amicable and friendly meeting in which the senior officer was cleared of all allegations leveled against him.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, through a statement by the Acting Director of Defence Public Information, Col. Chris Magezi.

“Brig Gen Johnson Namanya has been released from detention following an amicable and friendly meeting with the CDF, in which he was cleared of all allegations leveled against him. He will resume his military duties accordingly,” the statement read.

Brig Gen Namanya, who had previously served as Commissioner for Citizenship and Passport Management at the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (on secondment from the UPDF), was detained at the Kasenyi military installation.

His detention followed a broader review of immigration operations ordered by Gen. Muhoozi in February 2026.

He had only recently returned to full military duties before the detention.

No details were provided about the specific allegations against him.

This development comes shortly after reports that another senior officer, Maj Gen Don William Nabasa, was also detained on the CDF’s orders.

Brig Gen Namanya is now expected to immediately resume his official military responsibilities.
