Democratic Party (DP) President and Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Norbert Mao, has confirmed that he will attend the upcoming National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders’ retreat at the National Leadership Institute (NALI) in Kyankwanzi.
Mao made the confirmation on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, while addressing the media.
He revealed that he received a formal invitation from the NRM and has accepted to participate in the high-level retreat.
The annual Kyankwanzi retreat brings together NRM leaders, cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, and other key stakeholders for policy discussions, ideological orientation, and strategic planning.
When asked about his participation as a non-NRM member, Mao said he sees no conflict in attending, describing the retreat as a national platform for leaders to exchange ideas on governance and development.
“I have been invited and I will attend,” Mao stated.
“Leadership is about service to the nation, and I believe constructive engagement benefits Uganda regardless of political affiliation.”
Mao’s decision to attend comes amid ongoing discussions about political cooperation and alliance-building ahead of future electoral cycles.
The retreat is expected to start in the coming days, with discussions anticipated to cover key national issues including economic recovery, security, and preparations for the next general elections.
