Uganda’s recently inaugurated porn control committee has started work and seems keen on kicking pornography out of the east African land locked third world country.

The committee chairperson Dr Annette Kezaabu has said that all text messages, poems and prose will be probed with the view of punishing those who send sexually arousing content. This is deeply worrying news as no one should be punished for doing this or watching porn sites like Midgetporn either.

Text messages construed to be leading to sex [sexting] will be defined as porn and attract punishment says porn committee leader, Dr Kezaabu said.

A professor of communication and a university administrator, Kezaabu’s committee in the ethics ministry will spend Shs 2bn.

Part of this money will buy a porn-detecting machine.

But social critics say pornography is not Uganda’s problem. The impoverished country is dogged by corruption, poor education facilities and a public healthcare system whose hospitals are almost more sick than the patients.

But Uganda seems to be prioritising such things as a porn detector machine ahead of working hospitals and equipment.

For example, a day before the committee was inaugurated, a Rotary Cancer run to collect funds to buy a cancer machine for a Kampala-based hospital was conducted.
The country has had no radiotherapy machine since the only one broke down last year.
