CONFIRMED: Gov’t Blocks MTN Nyege Nyege

Government has Tuesday evening announced the cancellation of the much hyped MTN Nyege Nyege festival.

The announcement was made by Father Simon Lokodo, the Minister for Ethics and integrity during a press conference at the Uganda Media Centre in Kampala.

Lokodo said the government had information that open sex, noise, homosexuality, LGBTI would be part of this event hence the decision to cancel it.

“MTNNyegeNyege will not be accepted because these people will be openly saying such statuses. This year, it will not take place,” the Minister said.

He disclosed that he tried to have it cancelled last year but “they esacaped”

He further revealed that the event attracts foreigners yet the Ministry of Foreign affairs is not aware of their activities, something he said might cause security issues.

“Let foreigners not come to Uganda for sex. If you are coming for sexual reasons, worse still homosexuality and LGBTI, stay away.”

About the expenses already incurred by the organisers, Kokomo said “we have already evaluated how much losses I’ll come.”

“We shall save the image of this country by not allowing this to take place for the two days and one night,” he said.
