Controversy as Minister Jeje Odongo Denies Cancelling Nyege Nyege

Internal Affairs Minister Gen. Jeje Odongo has faulted as untrue the announcement made about government’s decision to cancel the MTN Nyege Nyege festival.

The said announcement was made by Ethics and Integrity Minister Father Lokodo while addressing a press conference at Uganda Media Centre on Tuesday evening/

Lokodo said the government had information that open sex, noise, homosexuality, LGBTI would be part of this event hence the decision to cancel it.

“MTNNyegeNyege will not be accepted because these people will be openly saying such statuses. This year, it will not take place,” the Minister said.

But while speaking to local news website ChimpReports, minister Odongo termed Lokodo’s announcement as as “putting the horse before the cart.”

“Consultations are still ongoing with government,” he reportedly told ChimpReports’ Sam Waswa.

“I have scheduled a meeting first thing in the morning tomorrow. I would be more comfortable after we have met to make the official government decision,” ChimpReports further quotes the Minister as having said.

The Tower Post understands that the said meeting will be sitting tomorrow at 10:00AM.

Nyege Nyege is slated to take place at the Nile Resort beach in Jinja starting from Thursday September 6th up to Sunday September 9th.
