The dust raised by allegations that late educationist Prof Lawrence Mukiibi had sexual affairs with scores of his females students with whom he also sired children is yet to settle.
Weeks after Prof Mukiibi’s burial, female MPs under their umbrella body Uganda Women Parliamentary Association (Uwopa) have not only urged government to investigate the allegations but also want government to look after the children and their mothers.
On Thursday, Uwopa Chairperson Monica Amoding and Center for Domestic Violence and Prevention executive director Tina Musuya issued a press statement on the issue.
“We demand that government investigates the allegations of sexual abuse of the young women and girls by the late Mukiibi, read the statement in part.
“Institute a committee to look into the welfare of the children left behind by the deceased.” reads the statement in part.
Musuya condemned Mukiibi for “fathering his children from students” describing the act as “unethical” and deserving of a probe.
“Imagine a Uganda where perpetrators of violence against women and girls face the full rigour of the law…all we want is for justice to be seen to be done,” Musuya added.
There is disagreement on the number of children Mukiibi left behind. While the press has put the figure at over 80, latest reports from the family put the number at 24.
The family also says Mukiibi had left behind only seven widows.
