Welterweight Muzamir Kakande, popularly known as ‘King Kong’ on Sunday bagged gold after winning at the AIBA African Boxing Championships in Congo Brazzaville.
Kakande beat Merven Clair of Mauritius book a place in the World Boxing Championships that will take place in Hamburg in August 2017.
Uganda had sent nine boxers to the competition. Two others – super heavyweight David ‘The Dragon’ Ayiti and Bantamweight Geoffrey Kakeeto – won silver.
Although they lost their finals on Sunday, they too will head to Hamburg in August.
The number is a slump from four Ugandans who qualified for for the World Championship in Doha, Qatar, from the 2015 African championships.
