Drama at Fallen ex-MP Omollo’s Burial as Museveni’s Condolence is Rejected

Fallen former Soroti MP Petere Omollo was laid o rest in Kamuda Sub-County, in a ceremony characterised by drama and emotion.

The mourners, incensed by government’s failure to grant the fallen MP a state burial, were further irked by Minister Agnes Akiror’s complaint about protocol.

When Akiror, the Teso Affairs minister, was invited by emcee, former Serere County MP Stephen Ochola, to deliver President Yoweri Museveni’s condolence message, she used the opportunity to question why she was not speaking last since she was the president’s representative at the funeral.

She wondered why her, the chief mourner’s representative, had to speak before opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Chairman Wasswa Biriggwa and President Mugisha Muntu.

Omollo, a vibrant MP in the 8th and 9th Parliaments, was a vocal member of the FDC.

The mourners heckled Akiror, in response.

And emcee Ochola swung in action to grab the microphone from minister Akiror.

“If the president’s representative cannot answer these questions then her condolence message is not required,” Ochola questioned Akiror, relating to questions by mourners as to why Omollo was not given a state funeral.
